On Tuesday of this week, we will continue to practice writing and solving proportions. Regular math students will do Workbook Lesson 8-2, while advanced math students should do page 401 (20-25) in their text, solving each word problem by writing a proportion.

On Wednesday, we will begin using customary units 0f measurement and solving equivalent measurement problems using proportions. Students will need to memorize the equivalent measurements on page 402 of the text. The homework assignment is a take-home quiz on ratios and proportions, and will be graded. It is on page 416 (1-9) for regular math classes and page 445 (1-11) for advanced. Advanced students, remember to use proportions for problems 9, 10 and 11.

We'll continue to work on these skills in the Workbook, Lesson 8-3, problems 1-12 for regular math students, while advanced students should do problems 1-12 and 23- 26 on Thursday.

By Friday, we'll be ready to begin studying percents, which simply means "out of 100." Read over pages 418-419 in the text. The regular math classes should do page 420 (1-14) while advanced classes should do problems 15-40.

Friday classes will be shorter, due to our auction that will be held Friday afternoon in the cafeteria. Thanks to all parents who sent in donations! This should be lots of fun, and hopefully your child will come home with something they are excited about!

Report cards will also be issued on Friday morning during homeroom. Please ask for these over the weekend. Hopefully, there will be no surprises. You should have seen and signed all math quizzes and test grades. Most grades look very good this quarter!
