Today, we began learning about percentages. Students learned that a percent is simply an amount out of 100. We learned to change fractions and decimals to percents. Tonight, regular math students should read page 418-419, then do page 420 (1-14). Advanced math students should do problems 15-40 on that page.
All students should have their report cards signed and returned by tomorrow.
On Tuesday, all classes should do workbook 8-7.
Second and third period math classes should bring home their quizzes on proportions to be signed.
On Wednesday, we will practice writing decimals and fractions as percents some more. Students should read page 422-423 in their text, then do page 424 (1-9) in regular math classes. Advanced students should do problems 27-48. Sixth period math students should get their quizzes signed and returned.
Thursday, regular math students should do Workbook Lesson 8-8, and review for their quiz on proportions and percents on Friday. Advanced math students should do problems 49-59 on page 425. Remember to show all work on problems 49-54. Seventh period math classes should have their quizzes signed that night.
We will take our percentages quiz on Friday, after we check homework and review. Good luck to everyone!
Don't forget your chance to wear your hat to school on Monday, to give a "Hats Off" to our school bookfair. Save your money to buy some great books next week at a great price!

On Tuesday of this week, we will continue to practice writing and solving proportions. Regular math students will do Workbook Lesson 8-2, while advanced math students should do page 401 (20-25) in their text, solving each word problem by writing a proportion.
On Wednesday, we will begin using customary units 0f measurement and solving equivalent measurement problems using proportions. Students will need to memorize the equivalent measurements on page 402 of the text. The homework assignment is a take-home quiz on ratios and proportions, and will be graded. It is on page 416 (1-9) for regular math classes and page 445 (1-11) for advanced. Advanced students, remember to use proportions for problems 9, 10 and 11.
We'll continue to work on these skills in the Workbook, Lesson 8-3, problems 1-12 for regular math students, while advanced students should do problems 1-12 and 23- 26 on Thursday.
By Friday, we'll be ready to begin studying percents, which simply means "out of 100." Read over pages 418-419 in the text. The regular math classes should do page 420 (1-14) while advanced classes should do problems 15-40.
Friday classes will be shorter, due to our auction that will be held Friday afternoon in the cafeteria. Thanks to all parents who sent in donations! This should be lots of fun, and hopefully your child will come home with something they are excited about!
Report cards will also be issued on Friday morning during homeroom. Please ask for these over the weekend. Hopefully, there will be no surprises. You should have seen and signed all math quizzes and test grades. Most grades look very good this quarter!

Today, Regular math classes checked their homework, then worked on a review for their quiz tomorrow on changing fractions to decimals. For homework they will continue to work on this skill, on page 169 (12-27) in second period, and page 169 (12-19 and 28-33) in third period math.
Advanced math classes finished their quiz if they did not finish it on last Friday, then will do homework on Workbook Lesson 3-10. Classes were shortened today due t0 the Geography Bee held in the auditorium this afternoon. We are proud of all students who participated in this competition.
On Wednesday, regular math classes will take their quiz on changing fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. Third period will also have some decimal equations to solve. Homework tonight is on page 170 (45-50) and (54-61).
Advanced math classes will get their quizzes returned to take home to have signed. Please ask for these quizzes tonight. They will begin work on multiplying and dividing numbers with exponents, learning the exponent rules for these operations. They should complete the exponent worksheet on Wednesday night.
On Thursday, all classes will learn to write ratios. Read page 392-393 in the book. Second period should do page 394 (1-10) while third does page 394 (1-13). Advanced classes should do 6 - 24 on pages 394-395.
On Friday, we will learn to write and solve proportions. This is a very important skill that students can use to solve a variety of problems. We'll discuss page 398-399 in class, then they will do page 400 for homework. Second period should do (11-19), third should also do numbers 5 and 10 as well as 11-19, and advanced math should work problems 1-19.
Have a great weekend! You are now half-way through your sixth grade year. Wow, does time fly!

Yesterday, second period math class learned about changing fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions. They were assigned page 169 (1-11) on that page for homework. Third period math did some more practice on solving decimal equations, and in class practiced solving word problems where they had to interpret the quotient. They did page 136 (21- 33) for homework.
Second and third period classes will have their next quiz on Wednesday of next week.
Advanced math classes worked on changing decimals to fractions and vice versa this week, and will take their quiz on that skill, as well as solving decimal equations today. Yesterday they were assigned page 169-170 (34-53).
All math classes should do the workbook Lesson 4-4 for homework over the weekend.
All classes received quizzes back to be signed by parents on Thursday. If you did not see this paper, please ask for it tonight.
Have a fun weekend and enjoy MLK day! If you have time, work on those Blue Ribbons!

On Wednesday, we will continue to work on dividing decimals, this time by decimal divisors as well as decimals in the dividends. Read pages 127-128, then work problems on page 129. Second period do 1-8, third work 8-17, and advanced work 21-26 and 31-36.
On Thursday, we will continue to work on dividing decimals. Second period class should do Lesson 3-7 in the workbook, while other classes should do Lesson 3-8.
Friday, we will take our quiz on division of decimals in all classes. For homework, we have a "Jumble" to figure out, on page 142! It should be fun. (Second period math will do Lesson 3-8 in the workbook instead, problems 1-12.)

HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WELCOME BACK! We've missed you!
For our first lesson of the year, we reviewed multiplication and division of mixed numbers, then took a Blue Diamond Assessment of those skills. Second period math will review further tonight, by completing workbook page 3-6 (13-20). Third period math also learned to use scientific notation to write very small numbers, using negative exponents. They should complete the worksheet on that tonight. Advanced math classes should do page 130 (45-54) as a review.
ALL CLASSES SHOULD COMPLETE THE STUDY ISLAND 6TH GRADE PRETEST BY THE END OF THIS WEEK. THIS PRETEST WAS ACTUALLY ASSIGNED OVER THE HOLIDAYS. ONCE THE PRETEST IS TAKEN, STUDENTS MAY THEN START EARNING BLUE RIBBONS! PARENTS, ASK YOUR CHILD ABOUT OUR SCHOOL-WIDE BLUE RIBBON CONTEST!
